We make the danger safe first, then remove the tree and clean up, and provide an itemised invoice and photos for insurance claims. In a big storm we triage by danger: trees on houses or blocking the only way out come first. ## If a tree has just come down - Anyone hurt or trapped, or fire: call 000. - Tree on the house, blocking your door or driveway, roof damaged: NSW SES 132 500 (makes it temporarily safe; removal is for your insurer and a contractor). - Tree touching or on a power line: stay at least 8 m away, treat the line and the tree as live. Ausgrid 13 13 88 (Sutherland Shire, St George, inner and eastern Sydney); Endeavour Energy 131 003 (western and south-western Sydney, Illawarra). - Photograph everything before it is moved; call your insurer before authorising work. - A council street or park tree: report it to the council (or the SES in an emergency); don't cut it yourself. ## Who pays - A healthy tree that fell in a storm is generally treated as an act of nature: each owner claims on their own insurance. If the tree was dead, damaged or known to be dangerous, its owner may be liable. - Home policies often cover removing a tree that damaged the insured home (sometimes up to a limit); a tree that fell without damaging anything is often not covered; preventive removal is never covered. A car hit by a tree goes on the car policy. - Council approval: a tree that has already fallen, or is imminently dangerous, can generally be made safe straight away; most councils want photos kept and some want to be told within a set number of days. ## Availability and cost - Calls are answered after hours; when a crew is available we are usually on site within about two hours, from bases in Engadine, Ryde, Gordon and Bankstown. - After-hours call-outs are charged at after-hours rates with a minimum charge; an assess-and-make-safe call-out can be booked separately. Price given before work starts. Dollar amounts are not published. ## Related - Main website with every service, suburb and council guide: https://www.tree-services.com.au/ - Council tree rules for 32 Sydney councils: https://www.tree-services.com.au/council-tree-rules/ - Google reviews: https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJC5Olhctr5UkR-81ARND8yD8 ## Site credit Built by System C Pty Ltd (https://www.systemc.com.au/).
